Sodding in Wake county is key as it can completely change the look of your property in a matter of hours. Sod is the quickest, and most efficient way to create a lush, green, and thick lawn. Sod is authentic turf grass produced at a sod farm with a dense root system, a layer of rich organic matter, and heathy, bright blades of grass grown perfectly for your wants and needs. Sod is categorized in two different classes of turf grass, one being cool season grasses and the other being warm season grasses. Cool season grasses include Tall Fescue, Kentucky Bluegrass, and Ryegrass and are more commonly grown in colder regions such as the mountains of North Carolina. Warm season grasses thrive in warm climates and are native to the piedmont region of North Carolina. Warm season grass types include Bermuda, Centipede, St. Augustine, and Zoysia. Every property has different needs and there are ever-evolving species of grass to make sure all your needs are met. When picking the right sod, you must consider your soil type, chemical and nutrient balances in the soil, sun & shade requirement, and overall aesthetic goals you want to achieve. In order to have a successful transition with your new yard, you must have healthy, well aerated soil with an efficient irrigation system to ensure the sod roots properly. Sod can be laid at all times of the year except when soil temperature is 10° degrees Fahrenheit below freezing. Sod should be laid preferably in late fall, and early winter because that's when the least amount of maintenance is required to get it to root. The turf is less demanding when it's dormant because it does not require the amount of water to adequately root compared to summer when temperatures are high, evaporation rates are increased, and grass is stressed.
Sodding is important because adding turf to your property brings many benefits. Sodding your yard adds a healthy layer of turf that can dramatically help with drainage and soil erosion. Thick grass slows down the rate of water flow from storms and heavy rainfall which in return allows more time for the soil to absorb the water. During times of heavy rainfall with no grass, millions of soil particles are carried away and deposited elsewhere because there are no grass roots holding the dirt together. Erosion can cause ruts, and dips in the yard making it not drain properly, and not aesthetically appealing. Ponding of rainwater will also be reduced because the grass absorbs as much water as possible and actually makes a big difference compared to bare soil. Aesthetically, sod is the perfect solution to a bare yard, or an existing yard that's filled with weeds. If your family has kids and/or dogs, sod will also help them not get so messy since all that mud is now covered up by thick sod
